Ho Chi Minh City, 27 December 2017 – The upcoming edition of Plastics & Rubber Vietnam (The 7th International Plastics and Rubber, Technologies and Materials Exhibition and Conference for Vietnam) is set to run from March 20 to 22, 2018 at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Riding on concerted efforts by the co-organizers, UBM SES Vietnam Exhibition Services Co. Ltd., (a member of UBM Asia) and Messe Düsseldorf Asia Pte. Ltd., together with the genuine support from related government agencies and industry associations, Plastics & Rubber Vietnam will offer countless business opportunities, deliver the latest technology updates, and facilitate the exchange of ideas and insight into the rapidly expanding plastics and rubber industries.
As a flagship for the plastics and rubber sectors in Vietnam and Indochina, Plastics & Rubber Vietnam will prominently gather first-line manufacturers and companies from both the international and local markets, offering a comprehensive range of innovative plastics and rubber products, best-of-breed technologies, integrated solutions, parts and components, as well as materials and supplements. With its scale expanding steadily, the 2018 edition welcomes a strong line-up of over 160 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions, which include a roster of seven group pavilions from Austria, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Korea, Singapore and the United Kingdom, making this plastics and rubber technology exhibition the largest and most international of its kind in Vietnam and the region.
Booming Plastics and Rubber Processing Markets in Vietnam
Vietnam plastics industry is still a new sector compared to others such as mechanical, chemical or textile industry; however, it has experienced tremendous growth in both revenue and profitability, with annual estimated growth rate of 16 to 18 per cent. There are currently more than 2,200 plastics companies operating in Vietnam with the number of domestic companies accounting for 85 per cent. This has resulted from an ever-increasing consumption of plastic products which are widely used in several industries and economic sectors such as: power, electronics, telecommunication, communication and transportation, aquatic products, agriculture, etc. Forecasting to 2020, domestic plastic producers will need about 5 million tons of input raw materials for production flows and activities.
The rubber sector, on the other hand, continues its massive growth potential taking into account the fact that Vietnam has emerged as the world’s third largest producer of natural rubber, only after Thailand and Indonesia. The country’s rubber export volumes exceeded expectations with a total of 1.26 million tons worth a value of US$1.67 billion in 2016.
Positive growth prospects for Vietnam’s plastics and rubber sectors have now attracted strong attention of foreign investors, particularly from Thailand. This further creates a slew of business opportunities as well as challenges for domestic companies in the face of increased international competition. In fact, due to the lack of capital, technical equipment and advanced technology, many small and medium domestic enterprises have been mired in difficulties, finding it hard to compete with foreign counterparts.
As a result, it is critical for homegrown manufacturers to not only invest and upgrade their technologies, but also scale up the knowledge and capabilities to improve productivity and move up the value chain. Undoubtedly, Plastics & Rubber Vietnam will serve as an efficient and opportune sourcing platform for local manufacturers and exporters, opening up an opportunity for direct access to a wide range of top-notch exhibits, further creating a momentum for Vietnam’s plastics and rubber industries to develop to a level on par with regional nations.
